Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy that involves the burning of a herb called mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) near or on specific points of the body. The purpose is to warm and stimulate the flow of Qi (energy) and blood, often in the same meridians used in acupuncture. Moxibustion can be done directly (placing a small cone of moxa on the skin and removing it before it burns the skin) or indirectly (holding a burning moxa stick near the skin or placing it on top of an acupuncture needle). Also, we can use moxibustion with a slice of ginger.
It is commonly used to treat arthritis, cold, pain, poor circulation, irregular periods, and digestive issues, and is also known for helping turn breech babies during pregnancy. The warmth from moxibustion is believed to penetrate deeply into the body, promoting healing and restoring balance.
